Fused glass decorative tile on a granite stand, 13" W x 16" H
This is a fused glass piece depicting a woman with an African gele headdress and chickens in the background. The gold mica earring is the African symbol Akoko Nan, which translates to "the leg of a hen". It is a symbol of nurture and discipline. I read that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation teamed up with Heiffer International to donate chickens to Africans in hopes of uplifting their economic situation. Most of the recipients were women. This increased women's empowerment in agriculture.
